Armed Suspect Shot by Deputy Constable at 7241 Avenue C

May 18, 2009 - Charges have been filed against an armed suspect shot by a Harris County Precinct Six deputy constable at 7241 Avenue C about 1:10 a.m. on Saturday (May 16).

The suspect, Jacob Raymond Medina (w/m, DOB: 7/3/87), is charged with felony possession of a weapon in the 339th State District Court.  He was wounded one time in the back and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.

Deputy J. Pedraza, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Griffin and Officer K. Lopez reported:

Precinct Six Deputy Constable J. Pedraza responded to a discharge of firearms call and heard four gunshots when he arrived.  He began investigating the area and located Medina on the porch at 7241 Avenue C with an automatic pistol in his hand, and firing one shot in the air.  Deputy Pedraza gave Medina multiple commands to drop the weapon, at which time Medina raised the weapon and pointed it at Deputy Pedraza.  At that time, the deputy discharged his weapon one time, striking the suspect in the lower back.  Medina was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
