HPD Mounts up, Rides Out to Help Keep Houston Safe

April 29, 2010 - Officers from the Houston Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Detail and Bicycle Administration and Training Unit (BATU) saddled up and rode out today to meet residents of the Westbury community to encourage them to support HPD’s efforts to “Keep Houston Safe.”

Photos of today’s initiative in a number of Westbury neighborhoods are attached to this news release.

The initiative is part of an effort to reduce burglaries of motor vehicles and residences in the area.

“We’re hopeful that it will be successful,” said HPD Southwest Patrol Division Captain Mark Fougerousse. “We’re trying to interject some new tactics out here to intercept some of the criminals operating in this area and we’re going to try this in other patrol areas also,” said Capt. Fougerousse.

This is the first initiative of its kind launched in the Westbury area, with plans to expand to other areas under the Southwest Patrol Division’s watch.
