Investigation Into Man's Death at 14518 Hempstead Highway

August 30, 2010 - The death of a man at 14518 Hempstead Highway about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday (Aug. 28) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The victim, age unknown, suffered a laceration due to blunt force and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

A second male involved in this incident has not been charged at this time.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. E. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R. A. Moreno reported:

The victim and several others were in the parking lot at the above location partying and drinking beer. As the victim got into an argument with one of the individuals with whom he was drinking, another male attempted to intervene. The victim then went to his vehicle, got a screwdriver and continued the argument. Another person at the scene produced a rifle and the male again intervened and took the rifle away. He then struck the victim in the head with the rifle to keep him from stabbing the person the victim was fighting with. The victim collapsed and the male then called 9-1-1 for medical assistance and waited for police to arrive. The victim died at the scene.

The male was questioned and released and the investigation is continuing.
