December 6, 2010 - Houston police are seeking a suspect wanted in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 700 West Greens Road at Royal Road about 6:50 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 4).

The suspect, Javier Hernandez, believed to be in his 50s, is wanted for questioning in the incident. The victim, Taurus Cherry, 29, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer B. Tran reported:

The victim was operating a white Suzuki motorcycle at a high rate of speed westbound on West Greens Road when a maroon Mercury Mystique pulled out in front of him from a stop sign. The motorcycle struck the Mercury on its driver's side. The victim was thrown from the motorcyle.

Witnesses stated the driver of the Mercury stopped for a moment and then ran over the victim as he sped from the scene.  An eyewitness followed the Mercury and stopped the driver (Hernandez) a few blocks away and attempted to restrain him until police arrived. Hernandez and a passenger in the Mercury struggled with the witness and escaped on foot.
