Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 12500 Dunlap #378

December 20, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 12500 Dunlap #378 about 6:55 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 19).

The suspect, Jamal Jones (b/m, DOB: 11-28-86), is charged with criminal negligent homicide in the 180th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Felicia Jefferson, 28, of the above address.  Ms. Jefferson suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.  A photo of Jones is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Burton and Officer M. Brady reported:

Patrol officers and HFD emergency personnel responded to a shooting call at the above location and found Ms. Jefferson deceased in a bedroom of her parents' apartment.  Further investigation determined Jones was the boyfriend of Jefferson's sister and had arrived a short time earlier to visit his girlfriend and their children.  Jones, a commissioned security guard, was armed with his duty weapon, and was in the bedroom with his girlfriend, Jefferson, his four-month-old child, and Jefferson's children, 3 and 7 years of age.  Believing he had unloaded the pistol, Jones was apparently waving his weapon in the direction of those in the room.  The pistol discharged and Jefferson was struck in the head.  No one else was injured in this incident.
