The homeowner was asleep with doors to his townhome locked and the burglar alarm set when he heard the alarm go off. The homeowner, who recently had been burglarized, looked out his bedroom patio door and saw the suspect (Simpson) carrying his (homeowner's) television set out the patio door. At that time, the homeowner shot the suspect, who dropped the TV set and jumped a fence. The suspect collapsed on the other side of the fence. The homeowner called 911 and paramedics transported the suspect to the hospital.
The suspect's girlfriend, Walker, arrived on the scene right after the shooting. Further investigation revealed she was acting as the getaway driver during the burglary. She was taken into custody and charged in the incident.
