Suspect Wanted in June Fatal Shooting At 4700 Park Drive

Wanted Suspect, Ignacio RuizJanuary 27, 2010 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of a woman at 4700 Park Drive about 3 a.m. on June 27, 2008.

The suspect, Ignacio Ruiz (H/m, DOB: 9-8-88), was arrested on Oct. 30, 2008 and charged with murder in the 228th State District Court. Ruiz was to appear in court on Tuesday (Jan. 26). However, he never returned and now faces a charge of bail jumping. He is believed to be in east Houston or on his way to Michoacan, Mexico, where he has family. Ruiz is accused in the killing of Rigoberto Careaga, 22, of Humble, and the wounding of a female. Mr. Careaga suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Doctors stated she should make a full recovery.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Senior Police Officer M. Waters II reported:

The victims were shot while in the 4700 block of Park Drive after an argument with the suspect who then fled the scene in a four-door black midsize vehicle.

Further investigation developed Ruiz as the shooter in this incident and he was arrested in October. Ruiz was set to plead guilty in a court on Tuesday (Jan. 26) in lieu of a trial, but he never returned to the court.
