Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 8400 Jason

July 28, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found in the 8400 block of Jason about 2:50 p.m. on March 13, 2009

The suspect, Jero Dorty (b/m, DOB: 2-11-81), is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of  Justin Johnson, 22, of Houston, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Odom reported:

Patrol officers responded to a shooting in progress call in the 8400 block of Jason and found Mr. Johnson lying on the side of the street.  According to witnesses, Johnson had just parked his car on the side of the street in front of his apartment at the Braeburn Colony Apartments.  As Johnson exited his vehicle, an unknown suspect approached him and both men exchanged words.  The suspect then produced a handgun, shot Johnson, and was then seen taking a white plastic bag belonging to Johnson.

The suspect, described at that time only as a black male, then fled the scene in a red, newer model Toyota Camry.

Further investigation and witness statements identified Dorty as the suspect in this case and on Tuesday (July 27) he was arrested without incident.
