Fatal Traffic Accident at 2100 North Freeway

June 21, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 2100 block of the North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 3:05 a.m. on Saturday (June 19).

A female victim, of Houston, was pronouced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J.K. Richard and Officer C. Long reported:

The victim was driving a gold Ford Taurus northbound on the North Freeway when one of its tires blew out. The driver stopped in a moving lane of traffic, got out and walked to the passenger side of the vehicle. A black Chrysler 300,also travelling northbound on the freeway, struck the side of the Taurus. The Taurus was pushed into the legs of the victim, who fell backwards, striking her head on the roadway. The driver of the Chrysler was suspected of being under the influence of alcoholand was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The passenger in the Taurus fled the scene.

The investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed at this time.
