Update: Suspects Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 3302 Anita

November 1, 2010 - Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 3302 Anita about 11 p.m. on Oct. 24.

Marcus Jamal Parnell (b/m, DOB: 9-28-91) is charged with capital murder in the 185th State District Court and Anthony Trinnel Brooks (b/m, DOB: 9-8-90) is charged with capital murder in the 230th State District Court.

The victim, Perry Ray, 35, of the above address, suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.C. Padilla and Senior Police Officer R.L. Bolton reported:

The suspects waited for Mr. Ray to leave his house.  When Ray opened the door, Parnell and Brooks shot him.

Several Crime Stoppers tips led to the identification of the suspects.  Parnell, who was wanted for an outstanding probation violation, was contacted by police and turned himself in.

Suspect Brooks was located Friday (Oct. 29) in the 5300 block of Coke.  When authorities attempted to arrest him at that location, he held a resident and her 1-year-old child hostage for several hours before surrendering to police.

Subsequently, both Brooks and Parnell confessed to their roles in the murder and robbery of Ray.
