Investigation into Woman’s Death at 106 East Thornton

November 2, 2010 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a woman found following a fire at 106 East Thornton about 4:50 a.m. today (Nov. 2).

The female victim, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and Officer D. Gunter reported:

HPD patrol officers were dispatched to a house fire at the above address.  The fire consumed the entire second floor of the house, trapping the woman who lived there in an upstairs room.  The woman’s son was downstairs at the time of the fire and was able to escape safely and call for help.

Houston Fire Department Arson investigators indicated the likely cause of the fire was a lightning strike on the northwest corner of the house.  However, their investigation is continuing.
