HPD, Texans Partner Up for "Blue Santa" Program for Kids

November 9, 2010 - Houston Police Chief Charles A. McClelland, Jr. and Houston Texans Pro-Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson teamed up to announce a partnership for the HPD Blue Santa program at a news conference today (Nov. 9) at HPD Headquarters.

Photos of the event are attached to this news release.

The aim of the partnership is to encourage public support for the Blue Santa Houston program and increase the number of underpriviledged families assisted this year through community donations and corporate sponsorships.  Since 1984, the Blue Santa Program has delivered thousands of gifts, toys and holiday cheer to needy children and their families. The program is expected to provide toys to more than 12,000 kids.

Andre Johnson graciously donated autographed memorabilia to Blue Santa that will be auctioned to raise funds to provide toys to needy children.

"Andre Johnson has done this sort of thing since coming to Houston and we are certainly a better community for it," said Chief McClelland.  "He is a very good guy who is going to make a lot kids very happy this Christmas, " the Chief added.
