HPD Homicide Division Officers M. Stahlin and D. Gunter reported:

The suspect was visiting the home of the complainant (the shooter), 39, for the holidays.  Late in the evening, the suspect became belligergent and assaulted the homeowner.  The homeowner struggled with the suspect and was able to remove him from the residence, before locking the door while the suspect stood outside yelling at him.  The suspect then attempted to re-enter the residence and was told repeatedly by the homeowner to leave.  The suspect then broke a front door window, reached inside and unlocked the door.  The homeowner, fearing for his childrens' safety, retrieved his gun and continued to warn the suspect not to enter the home.  The suspect ignored the warnings, forced open the front door and charged the homeowner, who fired his gun once, fatally striking the suspect.
