Investigation Into Fatal Shooting at 452 West 24th Street

October 4, 2010 - The fatal shooting of a male at 452 West 24th Street about 5:55 p.m. on Sunday (October 3) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The male, George Anthony Martin, 69, of the above address, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female shooter (Martin's wife), 79, has not been charged at this time.

HPD Homicide Division Officers M. Khan and N. Wackman reported:

Patrol officers and HFD emergency personnel responded to a shooting call at the above address and found Mr. Martin deceased. Martin's wife was detained at the scene without incident.

Further investigation determined Martin and his wife had been married for 11 years and lived in a home with several guns inside. Martin had been drinking, was verbally abusive toward his wife and, at some point, threatened to kill her. Believing Martin was going to kill her, the wife stated she retrieved her own handgun and shot Martin. She then left the house, went to her daughter's home next door and called 9-1-1.

The investigation is continuing.
