Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 3300 North Eldridge Parkway

October 11, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 3300 North Eldridge Parkway about 5:45 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 10).

The suspect, Nicholas Jared Mireles (H/m, DOB 8-15-86), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 176th State District Court. He is accused in causing the death of a female, 54, whose identity is being withheld pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer D. Ashford reported:

Witnesses stated Mireles was driving a white Toyota Camry and tailgating another vehicle as he traveled south on North Eldridge Parkway. The driver of the other vehicle pulled into another lane to allow Mireles to pass. When Mireles went to pass, he crossed into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a gold Toyota Avalon. As Mireles continued driving south in the northbound lanes of North Eldridge, his vehicle collided with a Toyota Corolla following the Avalon. A male and female in the Corolla were injured and taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where the female died. Passengers in Mireles' vehicle were taken to Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Mireles was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he underwent surgery. Blood results upon arriving at the hospital revealed Mireles was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
