Investigation Into Fatal Shooting at 3832 Westhampton

October 12, 2010 - Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a man at 3823 Westhampton about 3 a.m. today.

The victim, Manuel P. Carter, 44, of the above address, suffered an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Tolls and Officer P. Vela reported:

Patrol officers responded to a family disturbance with a weapon call at 3823 Westhampton. When an officer arrived and knocked on the door, the officer saw Mr. Carter look out a front window at him. A female inside the residence then came to the front door to speak with officers. As they spoke, officers heard a loud noise from inside the residence. Believing it to be a gunshot, officers had the female leave the house and then attempted to make contact with Carter. After getting no response, officers cautiously checked the house and found Carter deceased in the master bathroom.

It is believed Carter shot himself with a firearm kept in the house.
