Second Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 9718 Galaxy


September 22, 2010 - A second suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of another at 9718 Galaxy about 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 10 has been arrested. 

Gerald Lernard Porter (b/m, DOB: 3-7-84) was taken into custody on Tuesday (Sept. 21).  Porter and Herbert Goldsmith (b/m, DOB: 11-28-88) are charged with capital murder in the 176th State District Court.  They are accused in the death of Christopher Jones, 29, of the above address, who suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Blain, J. Burton and Officers J. Robles and M. Brady reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and found the victim inside a bedroom.  A second male victim, 27, was found in the kitchen, also suffering a gunshot wound, and was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Further investigation developed information that identified Porter as a second suspect in this case.  Another suspect, Goldsmith, was arrested September 14 following a vehicle pursuit with HPD, Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables and Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies.
