Fatal Construction Accident at South Highway And MacGregor


April 25, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal construction accident at the South Highway (State Highway 288) and MacGregor about 4 p.m. last Friday (April 22).

The victim, Manuel A. Seja, 47, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer C. Tosso reported:

A white International Cement truck was parked at a construction site at State Highway 288 and MacGregor, underneath the freeway alongside Brays Bayou, when it jumped out of gear. Mr. Seja was working in front of the truck when it jumped forward and fatally struck him. Two other workers alongside Seja were also injured and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Both men suffered severe, but non life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in this incident. The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division and the Truck Enforcement Unit are both investigating the accident. The investigation is continuing.
