Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 12615 Brookglade Circle


January 18, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 12615 Brookglade Circle about 4:50 p.m. on Friday (Jan. 14).

The suspect, Joel Stephen Berkley (b/m, DOB: 12-16-88), is charged with capital murder in the 184th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Howard Lowe, 21 of the above address.  Mr. Lowe suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Blain, K. Deese, Senior Police Officer J. Robles and Officer N. Wackman reported:

Patrol officers responded to a shooting just occurred call at the Brookglade Apartments at the above location.  Officers and HFD emergency personnel arrived and found Mr. Lowe lying in a common area of the complex.  A preliminary investigation determined Lowe had been shot and killed during a robbery.

Further investigation identified Berkley as a suspect in this case and he was arrested a short time later.
