Investigation into Incident at 7300 Northline

July 29, 2011 - The death of a man following a robbery at 7300 Northline about 10:50 a.m. on July 22 will be referred to a Harris County Grand Jury.

The male suspect, Marcus Batum, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. The male victim, 72, was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers J. Robles and F. Waters reported:

The male victim and his brother were inside their business at 7300 Northline when Batum entered the location and robbed both men of their money and possessions at gunpoint. Batum then fled on foot. The victim and his son then got into their vehicles and attempted to locate Batum in order to assist police. When the victim located Batum in a parking lot at 134 West Little York, Batum drew his pistol, pointed it at the victim, and fired at least one time. The victim then defended himself by using his vehicle to strike Batum. The victim's son, who was in fear that his father would be shot, also struck the suspect with his vehicle. Batum was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
