Officer T.L. McKnight, who discharged her weapon, was not injured in this incident. Officer McKnight was sworn in as an HPD officer in June, 2008 and is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officer M. Burrow reported:

Officer McKnight and Officer S. Garza responded to a disturbance at the above address. When they arrived, they observed the suspect, Vallery, in a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend over their child. In an effort to calm Vallery, Officer McKnight attempted to escort him away from the area. Vallery then began to assault and attempted to disarm Officer McKnight. Officer Garza came to Officer McKnight's assistance and Vallery then attempted to disarm both officers. Officer McKnight did retain control of her duty weapon and discharged one round, missing the suspect. Officer McKnight then deployed her Conducted Energy Device (CED) and the two officers were able to take Vallery into custody.

No one sustained serious injuries in this incident.

As is customary in all officer involved shootings in the Houston city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
