May 2, 2011 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman at 4611 Collingsworth about 2:10 a.m. on Saturday (April 30).

The victim, Laura Anna Guillen, 31, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she later died.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer B. Evans and Officers T. Andrade and L. Carballo reported:

Ms. Guillen was in the driver's seat of a vehicle.  A male seated directly behind her attempted to pull a weapon from his right front shorts pocket to see if it was loaded.  As the male checked the weapon, he said he placed his finger on the trigger and the weapon fired.  Ms. Guillen was then struck in the back.  She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The male shooter was detained for questioning in this incident.

This case is being reviewed by the Harris County District Attorney's Office.  No charges have been filed at this time.
