Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 5700 Yale

May 31, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 5700 Yale about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday (May 29).

The suspect, Michelle Alcocer (H/f, DOB: 4-11-89), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 338th State District Court.  A photo of suspect Alcocer (with injuries sustained in the accident) is attached to this news release.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer D. Ashford reported:

Alcocer, with her adult brother (victim) and her two children as passengers, was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe at a high rate of speed northbound on Yale.  For an unknown reason, the Tahoe started skidding and went into a ditch on the east side of the street.  The Tahoe then flipped and rolled several times before coming to a stop on the southeast corner of Yale and Patrick Street.  Alcocer and her brother were ejected from the Tahoe.  The brother died at the scene.  The two children, a 3-year-old and a 9-month-old, who were in child seats not secured by seat belts, landed on the roof of the Tahoe after the vehicle came to a stop on its roof.  Alcocer and her children were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of their injuries.  Alcocer was then taken into custody.
