Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 7200 Fondren

November 7, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 7200 Fondren about 12:10 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 5).

Franklin P. Canales (H/m, DOB: 1-9-61) is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 230th State District Court.  No photo of Canales is available at this time.

The male victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer M. Hardt reported:

Suspect Canales was driving a dark green Toyota Corolla southbound in the northbound lanes of Fondren when he struck a tan Toyota Camry.  Canales was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Canales' passenger and the driver of the Camry were both transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where the passenger died.  The driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries.

Further investigation determined Canales was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
