Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 10900 Gulf Valley

November 28, 2011 - The fatal shooting of a burglary of a motor vehicle suspect at 10900 Gulf Valley about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday (Nov. 27) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The suspect suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  A second suspect, Jesus Valentine Alaniz (H/m, DOB: 8-13-91) is charged with burglary of a motor vehicle in the 184th State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. C. Padilla and Senior Police Officer R. L. Bolton reported:

Patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 10900 block of Gulf Valley and met with a citizen, who stated three suspects attempted to break in to his fiancee's car.  The citizen told officers when he confronted the suspects and ordered them to stop, one of them made a suspicious move.  The citizen stated that he feared for his life and discharged his firearm.  The suspects then fled in their vehicle a short distance down the street and then struck a curb.  Two suspects then got out of the car and fled on foot.  The third suspect suffered a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Responding patrol officers then searched the area and located suspect Alaniz.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Alaniz was interviewed by investigators and admitted to his role in the incident.
