HPD Unites with Houstonians to Raise "One Voice" Against Domestic Violence

October 17, 2011 - Members of the Houston Police Department have joined with Houstonians and Daya, Incorporated, in raising "One Voice" against domestic violence. This was the fifth year the organizations and community united to increase public awareness of the serious issue which is domestic violence.

Photos of last Saturday's (Oct. 15) "One Voice" initiative are attached to this news release.

Participants, including HPD officers, formed a human chain from the Hillcroft Shopping Plaza to the Westpark Tollway as a visible way of calling attention to the issue.

"We want to make everyone aware that domestic violence happens," said HPD Senior Police Officer Janette Arceneaux. "We asked motorists to honk their horns to show that we can put a stop to the violence," she added.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month. For more information on the resources available to help domestic violence victims, visit the HPD website at www.houstonpolice.org and click on the "Keep Houston Safe" icon.
