HPD Officers Renew Partnership with Boys and Girls Club

September 13, 2011 - The Houston Police Department is proud to announce the continuation of a partnership between HPD and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston.

Houston Police Assistant Chief Brian Lumpkin said this is the third year HPD has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to provide mentors to children in Houston’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.  HPD officers serve as role models and mentors in seven area Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Houston. There are two officers at each location for two four-hour shifts each week.

The officers assist the youth with their homework, and discuss with the teens alcohol and drug abuse, peer pressure and other issues that they face on a daily basis.  The officers also interact with the youth in recreational activities.
