April 5, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5000 block of the North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) about 5 a.m. today.

The male victim, 64, was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Hall and Senior Police Officer S. Boone reported:

The victim was driving a blue Freightliner tractor-trailer truck westbound in the 5000 block of the North Loop East near Lockwood when he suffered a possible heart attack. The truck veered off the freeway to the right and struck ditches and a tree before coming to a stop. The driver was then taken to the hospital where he died.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.
