Houston Police Department
Investigation into Female's Death at 8300 Mykawa

August 16, 2012 - Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a female at 8300 Mykawa Road about 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 15).

The female, Shawna Rene Huebner (w/f, DOB: 3-12-83), of Houston, suffered ligature marks to her neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine her cause of death.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Senior Police Officer C. Abbey reported:

Ms. Huebner was arrested about 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday for public intoxication at Hobby Airport after she was denied access to a flight. Officers transported Huebner to the HPD Southeast Jail at the above address where she was processed as a prisoner. Huebner was placed in a holding cell by herself. While in the cell, she wrapped the cord from a pay phone around her neck and hung herself.

Jailers conducting a routine check of the cell found Huebner and immediately began CPR and called 911. Paramedics arrived and pronounced her deceased.

As is customary in cases considered in-custody deaths, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
