The victim, Eric Xabier Cruz, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Brooks, C. Cegielski and Officers M. Chaney and J. Dominguez reported:

According to witnesses, a black truck pulled up and parked in front of a residence at the above address. Mr. Cruz, who was having an argument with an unknown suspect inside the truck, then exited the vehicle. At some point, the suspect fired several shots from inside the vehicle and fatally struck Cruz. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Further investigation determined Cruz and a friend picked up two people in order to engage in a drug deal. Because the two men did not have money to pay for the drug transaction, they planned to rob Cruz and his friend. Cruz was shot at the above location and his friend kidnapped and beaten at gunpoint. The suspects then fled in Cruz's black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The kidnapped male was able to escape while the pickup truck was stopped at a red light.

The investigation led to the identification of Trevino and Black as suspects in this case and, on Tuesday (Dec. 12), they were arrested without incident.
