Investigation into Fatal Assault of Woman at 5730 Sanford

January 13, 2012 - Houston police are investigating the beating death of a woman at 5730 Sanford about 8:45 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 12).

The victim, Margaret Marie Gage, 82, of the above address, suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and Officer M. Stahlin reported:

Mrs. Gage and her husband were at home when their dog began barking.  When her husband opened the back door to let the dog outside, an unknown male suspect forced entry and pushed the husband to the ground.  The suspect kicked the husband in the head.  At that time, Mrs. Gage tried to intervene and the suspect fatally beat her with his hands.  The suspect then forced the husband to show him where the valuables were and then fled the home with several items.

At 2 p.m. TODAY (Friday, Jan. 13), an investigator in the Homicide Division will be available to answer questions in this case in the media briefing room on the first floor of HPD Headquarters at 1200 Travis. 

Immediately following the news availability, investigators will also discuss the ongoing investigation into a suspect wanted in the overnight kidnapping of a one-year-old boy.
