Suspect Arrested in Child's Near Drowning at 5625 Antoine

June 22, 2012 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in connection with her child's near drowning at 5625 Antoine about 2 p.m. on Thursday (June 21).

The suspect, Linda Harden (b/f, DOB: 11-19-78), faces charges of injury to a child by omission for her role in critical injuries to her son, 7. In addition to complications from the near drowning, the boy suffered head trauma and appears to have older injuries. A photo of Harden is not available at this time.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Senior Police Officer M. Waters reported:

HFD paramedics responded to a drowning call at the apartment complex at the above location, performed CPR on the victim at the scene and then transported him to Texas Children's Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The pool was closed, with its gate locked and signs stating it was closed. Harden initially told investigators she, her son and three other siblings jumped the gate to get to the pool. Harden stated the victim dove into the pool and hit his head.

Harden eventually admitted she left her three young children (ages 2 to 4) alone in an apartment while she took her older son (victim) to swim. She stated she knew the pool was closed and locked, but disregarded warning signs and helped her son over the fence. Harden then said she soon realized her son was not moving in the pool. Following her arrest, charges were filed against Harden.
