Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 4300 South Loop West

October 3, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 4300 South Loop West (South Interstate Highway 610 West) about 9:30 pm. on Tuesday (Oct. 2).


The male victim, 57, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Sorge and Senior Police Officer E. Martinez reported:

A Ford Focus and a Hyundai Tucson were involved in a minor accident at the above location. The victim, driving a Mercury Grand Marquis, stopped in an adjoining traffic lane to avoid the accident. The driver of a Jeep Liberty then tried to avoid hitting the Mercury but was unable to avoid striking its right rear side. The driver of the Mercury then got out of his vehicle and was struck by a Ford Edge which was also trying to avoid the accident.

The driver of the Ford Edge remained at the scene and was questioned. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident.
