Investigation into Incident at 2100 Hepburn

September 21, 2012 - Charges are pending against a suspect who shot at a Houston police officer at 2100 Hepburn about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday (Sept. 20).

The suspect, Savorge Lee Curl (b/m, DOB: 5-22-81), has a pending charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.  No photo of Curl is available at this time.

Officer D.C. Moore, who was fired upon before discharging his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident.  Officer Moore was sworn in as an officer in September, 2010 and is assigned to the South Central Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officers J. Dominguez and C. Hassig reported:

Officer Moore was searching the area for an aggravated assault suspect when he observed someone matching the suspect's description walking westbound in the 2100 block of Hepburn.  Officer Moore gave the suspect (Curl) verbal commands to stop and show his hands.  The suspect then turned, produced a pistol, and fired at the officer one time, striking the officer's patrol vehicle.  Officer Moore, fearing for his safety, then discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect once time.

The suspect was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents within the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
