Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 9200 Lawndale

April 19, 2013 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 9200 block of Lawndale about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday (April 18). 

The Pasadena Police Department has contacted the Harris County District Attorney's Office, which accepted a charge of felony evading causing death against the suspect, Kenneth Ray Humphrey (w/m, DOB: 7-10-61).  A photo of suspect Humphrey, who was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital via Life Flight helicopter in critical condition, is not available at this time. 

The victim, a 6 to 8-month-old unborn child, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Tapia and Officer D. Hussain reported: 

Suspect Humphrey fled in his black Ford Escape from Pasadena police officers into the Houston city limits.  Humphrey failed to control his speed and lost control of his vehicle in the 9200 block of Lawndale.  The vehicle rolled over, ejecting Humphrey.  He was then taken to the hospital.  Two female passengers in the Escape, one of whom was pregnant, were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  The pregnant female, 34, lost her unborn child.  The other female, identified as Nelia Yarzagaray Riley (w/f, DOB: 1-1-83), faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance.  A photo of Riley is not available at this time. 

The investigation is continuing.
