August 13, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 6700 Memorial Drive about 7:25 p.m. on Monday (Aug. 12).
The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kung and Senior Police Officer J. Ortiz reported:
The victim was on a bicycle and traveling west on Memorial Drive, with a tan Chevrolet Impala traveling in the same direction behind him. When the bicyclist attempted to cross Memorial Drive at Memorial Loop Drive, he was struck by the Impala and ejected from the bicycle. The Impala then struck a traffic signal pole. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Impala's male driver, 25, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital for treatment.
The investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed at this time.
