Update: Females in Fatal Shooting at 239 Emerson #9 Identified

August 16, 2013 - Houston police have learned the identities of two women found fatally shot at 239 Emerson #9 about 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday (August 13).

The females are identified as Terry Sullivan, 67 and Barbara A. (Annie) Mayes, 60, of Houston. Ms. Sullivan suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Mayes suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Parker and Senior Police Officer S. Straughter reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to the above address after 9-1-1 operators received a call reporting a murder/suicide. Officers arrived and found one deceased female inside the apartment. While checking for other possible victims, officers found a second female in the bedroom, armed with a gun. Officers gave the female repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon, however she was unresponsive. The HPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team responded to the scene and secured the location.

A preliminary investigation by SWAT officers determined the second female had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was also deceased.

Further investigation and an autopsy by the Harris County Insititue of Forensic Sciences determined the cause of death to be a murder-suicide.
