August 19, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 200 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 6 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 18).
The male victim, 25, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer D. Hussain reported:
The driver of a white Cadillac DeVille was traveling northbound on the Eastex Freeway, then changed lanes and crossed the median. The Cadillac was then struck by a tractor trailer truck. This caused the Cadillac to spin and strike a freeway shoulder divider, killing a rear seat passenger.
It is believed several people were inside the vehicle, however, a male and a female fled the scene.
Evidence obtained at the scene indicates alchohol may have been a factor in the accident.
