December 26, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 8600 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 24).
The male victim, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Rossman and Officer P. Pham reported:
The victim was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway. The vehicle stopped on the shoulder and, for an unknown reason, the victim exited the car and crossed the northbound lanes of traffic on foot. He then attempted to cross the southbound lanes of the freeway. One driver was able to swerve to avoid hitting him. However, the driver of a white Ford Escape following the first vehicle was unable to avoid striking the victim. The driver of the Escape remained at the scene and exhibited no signs of intoxication.
There are no charges in this incident.
