Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 4000 North State Highway 6

February 18, 2012 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 4000 North State Highway 6 about 11:05 p.m. last Friday (Feb. 15).

The suspect, Joaquin Alfredo Bastart Gomez (H/m, DOB: 8-16-56) is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 208th State District Court. Gomez was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with serious injuries. A photo of Gomez is not available at this time.

The male victim, 25, was transported to Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institiute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer N. Rosenblatt reported:

The driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound on State Highway 6 when a silver Toyota Camry, driven northbound by Gomez, went into the southbound lanes of Highway 6. The Camry then struck the pickup truck. The passenger in the Camry was transported to the hospital where he died. Gomez, who exhibited signs of intoxication, was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the hospital and subsequently charged. The driver of the Ford was transported to Katy Methodist Hospital with minor injuries.
