January 7, 2012 - The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect and wounding of a female at 2949 Dunvale at 3:05 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 5) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The male suspect's identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.  The female victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Senior Police Officer C. Scales reported:

The female victim and her co-worker, both couriers for an armored car transport, made a cash pickup at a business at the above address.  As the female attempted to enter the armored transport vehicle after collecting money from the theater, the male courier, sitting inside the vehicle, disabled the vehicle's lock to allow her to enter. The suspect then approached the side of the vehicle and shot the female.  The male courier, who was not injured, returned fire and fatally struck the suspect.
