Fatal Traffic Accident at 800 East Loop North

January 15, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 800 block of the East Loop North (East Interstate Highway 610 North) about 6 p.m. on Monday (Jan. 14). 

The male driver and his female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Insititute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Senior Police Officer J. Ortiz reported: 

A Pasadena police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in his jurisdiction on a stolen vehicle, a white Chevrolet Impala, taken in an aggravated robbery in Harris County.  When the male suspect and his female passenger refused to stop, a vehicle pursuit was initiated, which entered into the Houston city limits.  As the suspect attempted to exit from the 610 Loop northbound lanes at Clinton Drive, he lost control on a sharp curve and struck a retaining wall.  Both suspects died as a result of the crash. 

Further investigation determined neither suspect was wearing a seatbelt. 

The investigation is continuing.
