Suspects Arrested, Charged in Infant's Death at 4749 Reed Road

July 3, 2013 -Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the death of an infant at 4749 Reed Road about 8:40 p.m. on Sunday (June 30). 

One suspect, John Caldwell (b/m, DOB: 3-18-90), is charged with injury to a child -serious bodily injury in the 351st State District Court.  The other suspect, Ginyear Jones (b/f, DOB: 8-21-89), is charged with two counts of injury to a child-serious bodily injury in the same court.  Both are accused in the death of Melony Jones, 13 months, who was transported to Texas Children's Hospital with multiple injuries and later pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officer M. Burrow reported: 

HPD patrol officers responded to the residence of baby Melony's maternal grandmother and observed paramedics transporting the baby to the hospital.  According to the grandmother, Melony had been staying with her mother (Jones) and her mother's boyfriend (Caldwell) at a motel at the above address.  The grandmother went to visit Melony and, after realizing she had sustained serious injuries, took Melony home and then called 9-1-1.  Doctors determined Melony had suffered broken bones, lacerations, bite marks and bruises.   

HPD patrol officers went to the motel at the above address and took Caldwell and Jones into custody without incident.  The investigation is continuing with the possiblity of charges being upgraded.
