HPD Homicide Division Sergeant H. Garcia and Officer C. Cardenas reported:

Lince and another male burglarized several vehicles and then stole a vehicle in the 600 block of Duff Lane.  A neighbor was awakened and followed the suspects

in his vehicle.  The neighbor spoke to his wife on the phone, who alerted other neighbors to the incident.
Several neighbors who had been victimized went to a gas station at the above address, where the suspects had stopped, and confronted them.  During the confrontation, one of the neighbors feared for his life and discharged his firearm, striking Lince.  He tried to escape by hanging onto the outside of the bed of a second stolen vehicle, a pickup truck, driven by the second suspect.  The truck then struck a concrete pillar under the North Freeway overpass and Lince was ejected.  He was transported to the hospital in serious conditiion.  The second suspect abandoned the stolen pickup truck he was driving and remains at large.

The shooting of Lince will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
