July 22, 2013 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of an infant found unresponsive at 10550 Valley Forge about 4 a.m. last Saturday (July 20).

The identity of the male victim, 17 days old, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Burton and J. Rhoades reported:

The medical staff at Memorial City Memorial Hermann Hospital contacted HPD regarding a baby boy transported to their facility by Houston Fire Department personnel.  According to  hospital personnel, the baby had arrived unconscious and not breathing.  The emergency room staff attempted to revive the infant, but were unsuccessful.
A preliminary investigation indicates the baby was sleeping with his father when his breathing was inadvertently blocked.  As is customary in the death of a child, officials with Harris County Children's Protective Services were contacted regarding the incident.
