Uniformed offcers assigned to the HPD Gang Division Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) initiated a traffic stop when they ran the license plate of a blue Nissan Sentra and it came back as being reporting stolen.  The officers attempted to stop the suspect, who then fled from the officers.  The pursuit lasted about four minutes and ended when the driver of the Nissan (the suspect) ran a red light while traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Hirsch and was struck by the driver of a tan Jeep Liberty.  The Nissan then struck a utility pole, killing the suspect.  A silver Jaguar XJ8 was also struck during this incident.

The driver and two passengers of the Jeep Liberty and the driver and passenger of the Jaguar were all transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
