June 7, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 3400 Pease Street about 11 p.m. on May 16.

The suspect, Ashton Charles Davis (b/m, DOB: 6-13-90), is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court.  A photo of Davis is attached to this news release.

The victim, Chris Roberts, 47, of Houston, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants C. Cegielski, J. Brooks, E. Cisneros and Senior Police Officer H. Chavez reported:

Mr. Roberts drove his pickup truck to the 3400 block of Pease, an area known for narcotics transactions.  When he stopped outside some vacant houses, he was approached by a group of males.  After talking with one of males, Roberts started to drive away.  As he did so, one of the males fired a gun at Roberts' truck, striking him.  This caused Roberts to crash his pickup truck into a house at 1702 Napoleon.  He was then taken to the hospital where he died.

Further investigation identified Davis as the shooter in this incident and, on Wednesday (June 5), he was arrested without incident.
