Fatal Traffic Accident at 18300 Gulf Freeway

June 11, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 18300 block of the Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 10:15 a.m. today.

The female victim, 20 to 24 years of age, and a juvenile male, 7 to 8 years of age, were transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Their identities are pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Francois and Senior Police Officer D. Kizzee reported:
According to witnesses, the female was driving a green Nissan Altima, at the posted speed limit, northbound in the 18300 block of the Gulf Freeway when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle. The Nissan struck the right protective barricade, flipped several times and then struck a cement support column. The driver and her juvenile passenger were taken to the hospital where they died. The front seat passenger, an adult male, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is continuing.
