March 25, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 6700 Avenue W about midnight on Sunday (March 24).

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Tapia and Officer D. Ashford reported:

The victim was driving a green Ford Ranger pickup truck at a high rate of speed northbound on North Cesar Chavez when he left the roadway and went through a chain-link fence.  This caused the pickup truck to become airborne and land in the nearby bayou.  The HPD Dive Team located the vehicle, with the driver deceased inside, and retrieved it with the help of a heavy duty wrecker.
