UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in 2011 Fatal Shooting at 3560 Dixie

March 28, 2012 -
********NOTE TIME AND LOCATION OF AVAILABILITY WITH INVESTIGATOR*******
Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 3560 Dixie Drive about 2:35 a.m. on December 18, 2011.

The suspect, Rodrick Damion Mitchell (b/m, DOB: 5-16-76), also known as Damion Latroy Mitchell, is charged with capital murder in the 338th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Hao Anh Huynh, 22, of the above address.

Photos of suspect Mitchell and Mr. Huynh are attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer R. Bolton reported:

Officers responded to a loud noise complaint at the Catalina Village Apartments at the above address and heard several gun shots in the area when they arrived.  Officers located the victim, Mr. Huynh, in a courtyard of the apartment complex.  He had been shot twice.  Huynh was pronounced dead at the scene.  Investigators interviewed witnesses who said a possible black male suspect left the scene driving a white Chevrolet car.
Firearms evidence and other articles at the scene were gathered and investigators requested the HPD Crime Lab to have some of the articles tested for DNA.

Crime Lab personnel recently advised investigators that DNA evidence in this case led to a CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) hit from the Texas Department of Public Safety.  On March 20, investigators learned the hit identified Mitchell's DNA on one of the articles tested.

Witnesses were then contacted and identified Mitchell as the person they saw leaving the apartment complex moments after the shooting.  On Tuesday (March 26), investigators and officers with the South Central Patrol Division Tactical Unit arrested Mitchell without incident.  He was questioned and charged in Hao Huynh's murder.

At 1:30 p.m. TODAY (Thursday, March 28), a homicide investigator will be available to answer questions in this case in the Media Briefing Room on the first floor of HPD Headquarters at 1200 Travis.  Note:  Reporters and photographers must enter the building through the public entrance at 1200 Travis, have valid ID and go through the metal detectors.  All visitors must then be escorted to the briefing room.
